make "ctrl+y" the keyboard shortcut for "redo"

Status: Declined
Functionality already in LabVIEW.

Currently, the default hotkey for the "redo" operation is ctrl+shift+z, which is not standard - most other software uses ctrl+y:

The ctrl+y hotkey is used for VI history. Since this is an operation unique to LabVIEW, we don't need to worry about it matching other software, so I think it should be changed (perhaps to ctrl+shift+y?).

There is a lot of other software that uses ctrl-shift-z for redo. LabVIEW is not alone here.

I also think that Ctrl+Shift+Z is a lot easier to use when you want to run backwards and forwards through the undo stack to quickly review recent changes, which I occasionally do.

What could be more useful is to have a "Redo" function that can be used to "Repeat" the previous action. But I am sure that has been proposed before, and that is certainly more difficult than the current suggestion!

Say, I need 10 numeric indicators on my Panel: I grab one and then press "Redo" 9 times. Of course you could also Ctrl-drag your control 9 times...

Or I changed the font size on a string indicator and I want to apply this to a couple of others: I select those and press "Redo/Repeat". Of course, you could select all of them and apply the style change to all...

I guess ctrl+shift+z is more standard than i thought, but I still think ctrl + Y is far more common.  Even other NI software (like TestStand and CVI) use the ctrl + Y shortcut.  I guess it is a bit nitpicky, but just wanted to put the idea out there.

I'm in the Ctrl+Shift+Z boat here. But in any case, this is already available in LabVIEW if you want it that way.  Go to Tools -> Options -> Menu Shortcuts.  Find Edit -> Redo and remap it to Ctrl+Y.  (It may overlap an existing shortcut, which you may want to remap, too)

Hi Mr. Mike,

I wanted to see the default changed, but I guess most people like it the way it is :-). Good to know!

If anyone knows of a similar Idea Exchange for Apple and Microsoft, I'd happily kudos an idea on their forms to standardize on ctrl+shift+z. Much more intuitive, much easier to type!
