Data logging using Blue Thooth

I'm stuck with Windows 2000 too.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the USB never works on Windows 2000, so I have put that on the backburner.

I have Widcomm Bluetooth drivers, which are said to work, and I can successfully pair with the NXT brick from My Bluetooth Places. However, that's as far as it goes.

My error is Error Code: 1073807202 / Error: Internal computer driver error, and after many many hours reading and testing and adjusting I believe that this driver error refers to the Fantom drivers and not the Widcomm Bluetooth drivers. Currently this driver seems to consist of a single file: fantom.sys. I have read that this error code can be fixed in LabView by installing NI-VISA, but I am unble to access the file. I have not read of anybody doing this for the NXT-G software.

I would be very very very grateful if anyone could help with this.

Thanks

Fantom includes some components of VISA, and that particular error code indicates that important VISA libraries are missing from your system.  The Fantom installer includes these libraries, though, so if you installed Fantom from a CD, everything should be working for you.  Has Fantom ever worked for you on this particular computer (USB or Bluetooth)?  If so, you probably accidentally deleted some of the important files.  Try reinstalling Fantom.  If Fantom has never worked, perhaps you tried to just copy files manually from another computer?  Fantom needs several files to work correctly, and if you missed any of those files, you would receive this error.

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply. That's the most useful bit of info I've heard on the matter. I'm still very much stuck on this and my Mindstorms kit is nealry a year old now. Fantom drivers for Windows 2000 seem very scarce. I have the following files which I extracted from a Microsoft Installer Archive which is restricted to Windows XP:

fantom.cat
fantom.dll
fantom.inf
fantom.sys
LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Driver {E73F27FB-93C6-450B-A58E-423D60DA517D}.xml
msvcirt.dll
msvcp60.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll
msvcrt.dll
NiViAsrl.dll
NiViSv32.dll
NiViUsb.dll
PassportRegEdit.exe
Readme.html
readmeJpn.html
visa32.dll
Visaconf.ini
VisaCtrl.dll
VISA-errors.txt
VISA-errors.txt.duplicate1
VISA-errors.txt.duplicate2
VISA-errors.txt.duplicate3
visastat.ini

I've copied these to WINNT/System32 but this doesn't help. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

NB: Not sure what's going on with my log-in...

For the first time ever, I got my NXT Brick connected on WIndows 2000 SP4 just now.

Here's what I did:

I am using Widcomm Bluetooth drivers, and a compatible device.

In the file, <.\Program Files\LEGO Software\LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT\MINDSTORMS Options.ini> change so that: BluetoothSearchTimeout=120

Pair NXT with PC - from the PC (making the NXT a slave and providing a serial port service), and save config as a shortcut (Widcomm check-box option). With that saved, unpair.

Restart

Reinstalled the NXT driver from: http://mindstorms.lego.com/support/updates/ It is version 1.02

Clear Mindstorms NXT-G software of all previous connections. Do not pair NXT with PC

Scan for devices in NXT-G. Status should be 'available' Connect. Enter passkey. Confirm on NXT Brick.

Done!

Those are the things I did, and it worked once.

Now I'm stuck with error code -1073807339 (connection was lost), and am trying to get to a stage where I will be able to connect again at will. At least I know I have all the necessary hardware, drivers and firmware.

EDIT: It seems that successive connects require the Bluetooth device to be restarted. Turning the Brick off and on while NXT-G is connecting also seems to help.
