Recording elapsed time when you hold an NXT button

hi,
i am not quite familiar with the timer VI in NXT Toolkit so i would like to know this: how can i measure the elapsed time when you hold an nxt button. in other words, i want to have a function which shows me for how long i've been pressing the nxt button
