Can you run the Version function (Utility palette) and see what you get for the 3 module information indicators? You can also manually open/close a module relay with the Switch function (Action-Status palette). Set the channel list to 101 and see if the instrument reports an error.

Does it work using the EZ Temperature vi? Have you downloaded the 34970A vi's from NI?

I would work with these (EZ vi's) until you get it working then you can work out your own command strings.
