I am trying to evaluate the 3D picture control for an upcoming project - however everytime I drag it onto the VI it causes LabVIEW to crash. The same thing also happens when trying load an example VI with a 3D picture control.
I am using LabVIEW 2010 with Windows XP.
Any thoughts?

Sam,
What example are you running? Just checked solarSystem.vi in LV 2009 and works just fine. Took that VI and dropped it into another VI with no issue. Sorry, don't have LV 2010 installed.
Used this: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\examples\picture\3D Picture Control\solarsystem.vi

I have tried using the Bouncing Ball 3D example VI and also the solarsystem VI that you tried. It loads up the window, but the 3D picture control looks transparent as it crashes.

Don't know. Someone needs to check it with LV 2010. If fine then maybe a bad install or PC issue.

What are the hardware requirements to use the LabVIEW 3D picture control?
I am using it on a brand new laptop with a Core i5 processor, 4Gb RAM and the inbuilt i5 HD graphics - which supports OpenGL 2.1.

Should be fine. Need someone from NI to give there opinion on the issue.

Hi Sam
I understand that you are having issues with the 3D picture control and that trying to access or initialize this function crashes the LabVIEW program.
I have run the example VI's, mentioned in previous posts, on LabVIEW 2010 and I have not come across any issues with loading or running the VI so I don't think it is a software problem.
When LabVIEW crashes do you get an error code? Could you send me the code number and I can then also look into it that way. LabVIEW has an error log file where you can investigate previous errors, there is a knowledge based article on this.
I have looked into your hardware and it doesn't look like this should be an issue either, but if you would also like to send me a screen print of your system properties I can look into the driver and graphics card compatibilities and get back to you on that.
I hope this is a helpful start!

Hiya,
Thanks for trying to help me out with this.
I have attached a 'System Information' output as produced by DirectX (handy for things like this).
No - there is no error message produced when this error occurs - it either hangs (and I get the windows error reporting box) or it just crashes straight to the desktop with no message.
I checked the error log - but it isn't updated when the program crashes and I don't get the dialogue box that offers to investigate errors.

Hi Sam
Thank you for sending me your system info.
Could you also send me the driver information from the measurement & automation explorer, (MAX)?
Have you tried running the VI after closing down all other programs, including other versions of LabVIEW, antivirus programs and other items that may affect the processor availability?
Please keep me up to date with what you are trying, while I keep looking into the issue.

Hi Stephanie,
Please find attached a support file produced by MAX.
I did wonder if the issue was related to using dual-monitors - however I tried disabling the extr amonitor and the problem still occurred.
I have just tried it again and got the 'Program is not responding' and error report details. The error signature according to windows was:
I also tried to open the solarsystem example VI and got a different error:
EventType : BEX P1 : LabVIEW.exe P2 : 10.0.0.4032 P3 : 4c24f059
P4 : dbghelp.dll P5 : 5.1.2600.5512 P6 : 4802a0b2 P7 : 0001295d
P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000
I hope that information will be helpful in resolving the issue.
