3D Picture Control not working correctly

Hi,

I am currently having problems using the 3D picture control on my laptop. When I place the 3D picture control on the front panel it appears transparent (i.e. no black background) and when I try to load a object into the scene it doesnt work. I have used the 3D picture control on other computers before and have never had such a problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what wrong? I updated my graphics device to see if it was that but had no luck.

Please find my computer details below.

Thanks,

Jack

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem.

Order of Transformations example doesn't work

Speculation was that the Intel Graphics driver wasn't up to the task.

I haven't followed up - it was a matter of curiousity, not need, in my case.

Hi Jack,

Steve makes a good point, are you able to check that the driver sets you have currently installed are the latest ones?

Regards,

Hi guys,

I have checked and the current driver I have installed is the latest one available from Intel. So I'm guessing I'm simply stuck? Does anyone have a list of graphics devices (preferably on board graphics used in laptops) available that will definetly enable the 3D picture control to work?

The reason I ask is I have used the 3D picture control on my major project this year in my degree and have to demonstrate the outcomes in two weeks and the only laptop I have been able to get the 3D picture control to work on at the moment only has 512mb of RAM, so as you could imagine it doesnt render the scene particularily well!!

If I had some sort of 'approved' list then I could start checking all of my friends laptops (majority are new-ish so will have 1gb+ of RAM) to see if any of them will work.

Thanks for your help,

Jack

Hi Jack,

Are you able to run any of the 3D picture control examples which ship with LabVIEW on your machine?

When you said that you were able to run a 3D picture control Application on another computer, was it the same application you are trying to run on your machine?

If so, were there any differences between the LabVIEW versions on both machines?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I can run none of the 3D picture control examples on my machine, when I look at the 3D picture control on the front panel is has a white background instead of a black one as I'd normally expect. It appears that the 3D picture control does not work at all on my current machine as it simply crashes LabView.

On the old machine the same application I intially tried worked fine and so do all the shipped LabView examples. I am the same version of LabView on both machines.

Here is all the information Windows gives me when the crash occurs on my machine,

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

  Application Name: LabVIEW.exe

  Application Version: 8.6.0.4001

  Application Timestamp: 4862fd60

  Fault Module Name: ig4dev32.dll

  Fault Module Version: 7.14.10.1329

  Fault Module Timestamp: 46e9b73e

  Exception Code: c0000005

  Exception Offset: 00006e49

  OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3

  Locale ID: 2057

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

FWIW, I ran the USING MESHES.vi example (in NEW EXAMPLES for LABVIEW 8.x - GENERAL folder in EXAMPLE FINDER), and I get a nice black screen.

I re-ran the one I originally had trouble with, and it sort-of works.  At least, it draws a couple of cubes that move.

The cubes disappear and reappear, I don't know what it's supposed to do.

This is after updating from 8.6.1 to 8.6.1f1, you might try updating to 8.6.1, then 8.6.1f1

The 8.6.1f1 patch is here, although it doesn't claim to fix any graphics issues:

CORRECTION:  The USING MESHES example DOES work on my machine.  The default values draw very dark red dots on a black background, and I was looking at it over VNC, which is probably set to reduce colors.

In any case, I would still suggest updating LabVIEW.

Hi Steve,

That didnt work either, I still get the same problem where whenever I try to do anything with a 3D picture control its crashes LabView. Does anyone have a list of approved graphics cards?

Cheers,

Jack
