Well, it's not that easy, because non of the 3d pictures can be saved to LV
7.0...

Wiebe.

Hi Wiebe,

I am not an expert on the new LabVIEW 3D Picture Controls or OpenGL. Go ahead and post questions/comments on the dedicated 3D picture control Discussion Forum post as other NI developers are checking that posting for feedback and questions regarding the 3D picture controls.

Thanks.

Hello

I have a few questions.

Where is the dedicated forum since the changes?

Can the 3D picture control be used in applications, or are there any license restrictions? (It says it is evaluation software, but also that it is for free, this is a bit confusing)

Unfortunately the dedicated topic for the 3D Picture Control tools was lost in the transition. The old forums had the concept of a "topic", which was different from a typical question or other thread, and they were not migrated.

One of most useful parts of that thread was a link to the download page for the tools, which I will post here.

LabVIEW 3D Picture Control Evaluation Software

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Additionally, I created a new thread here to continue the discussion about these tools.

Hi,

The link below shows 3d picture control, is this 3d picture control avaliable on labview 7.1 or is this only for labview 8.2.

http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361B-01/lvconcepts/3d_pic_control/

I read that the evaluation software is avaliable for 7.1 or later, but does this come with the same benefits such as specify their size, shape, movement and  appearance.

thank you

Hello Jim,

It has been a while since I've used the evaluation package of these tools, so perhaps someone else can answer the details of what the evaluation is able to do, but I can tell you this:

A much more complete (some more functionality, more thoroughly tested, better performance, and much better documentation) version of these tools is included with LabVIEW 8.2 (Full / Pro only).

I have not tried the evaluation package on anything other than 7.1 personally, but I think others have.  Perhaps someone else will post more detail, or you might find more info if you search for other threads about the "3d picture control".

Good luck!

The version of the 3-d Picture that will runs under (I believe) 6.1 - 7.1 was exteremly premature.

It had bad performance if you had more than a dozen objects, could not do custom skins and lighting at the same time, and don't even ask about documention.

I have looked at the new stuff that runs under LV 8.20 and it appears all of the above concerns I listed above have been addressed.

I have not worked with the new version yet (still learning the XControl) so I can not say much more about that.
