3d picture control

Hi Don,

I got a chance to run this on a Vista machine and 8.6.  I didn't see a crash, but I did see much slower performance.  Occasionally I did get a "Not Responding" but it always finished execution.

I will try to figure out why this is, as well as try to see if there is a workaround (other than using XP).

How many images (surface plots) did you try to render?

I was using a 100x500x200 array of random U32.

Well now it does not look like I will get to try all of this with the non activeX picture control until after NIWeek based on my schedule.

But here is what I am doing these days.

I have one option that applies a different color table to one section   This acts as sort of a cutting plane so the use knows at what XY section they are located at on the 3d volume.  But the problem with this is that 1) I would like to be able to do something like this for the XZ and YZ sections as well, and 2) using this strategy, I have to re-render the volume each time the user changes the XY section.  This particular volume had 170 slices so with minimization of the window during rendering, there is some delay.

Any thoughts on using cursors to demarcate the XY, XZ, and YZ sections?

Sincerely,

Don

Finally I have started to play with the 3d Picture Control as it relates to display of multiple images.  Jonathan Meyer provided an example that I have made some small modification to so that others (including myself) can take his basic strategy and grow it.  I am going to keep experimenting.  There are some problems.  It is slow and user interaction appears jumpy after volume formation with 80 images.  It is also unclear to me whether zoom, pan, etc. is doable with this control.  Mostly right now I need to study the code and strategy behind creating the necessary mesh and see if it can be optimized.

I was also discussing with Jonathan the possibility of better volume rendering tools.

See you in the AFC conference championship game?!

I'll have some more work/questions on the 3d picture control soon.

Jack lambert, the Sherrif. Had to retire due to "turf toe".

But speaking of Champions, I had been passing to the developer of the 3D picture examples that have been developed using the CW 3d version so that they can make sure it is compatable with the 3d picture version.

I passed along a link to your example above so that we can keep that one (sweet!) survives any updates.

Ben

I am not saying the CW version will go away soon. Even if it was planned, I would not be told that either. But I have been around LV long enough to know when there is more than one of ding something, the other way, slips over the event horizon.
