64bit Labview and Win7

64bit Labview and Win7

I just got a win7 workstation 64 bit.

Most of my carrer is in 32 bit LabVIEW.

Can I use 64bit LV and 32 LV bit together on the new machine? I plan to install version 2010 and 2012 both in 32 bit and 64 bit versions so that I can support

applications made for both types of machines in our end of the woods.

second Q is how are the Device Drivers installed?

I seem to be ok with the 32 bit version of LV but not sure how to or even if 64 bit drivers are different?

Yes.  They install parallel to each other, much like 2010 and 2012 do.

They use the same driver set.  Just install the drivers after all of your version of LabVIEW are installed and they will be there in all supported versions.

You should also note that not all of the LabVIEW toolkits are available for the 64-bit LabVIEW.

I was hoping it was that simple.

I Installed LV 2012 after the device drivers so that is probably why it did not see them.

I will re-install the device driver set Thanks!

Sorry, I seem to be  bit lost with this stuff.

I have installed LV 2010 and 2012 both 32 bit and 64 bit versions successfully. At least it appears that way.

To have device drivers for the 2012 version 64 bit I downloaded 'NI Device Drivers 2012.02 - Windows' from the web site.

When I try to install 'dcd_feb12_1.exe'  it unzips the 'products' folder to the appropriate path but does not launch the installer and there is no installer available in the folder.

( I am not even sure this is a 64bit version of the device drivers since in the properties :Description it says

7z Setup SFX (x86). )

so Q is

How to install LV 2010 and 2012 in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions with device driver support on a windows 7 machine?

I'll be glad to start over as long as I have the right procedure to follow. Thanks.

Unless there is a very compelling reason to use LabVIEW 64bit at all, I personally would do everything in LabVIEW 32bit, even on a 64bit OS.

Doing everything in two different bit versions just quadruples the maintenance, and if everything runs fine under 32bit, there is apparntly no need for very large data structures that could benefit from going to 64bit.

Wow, I thought by ver 2012 all this stuff would have been figured out. 

I don't know why the heck I was knocking myself out with this since all the drivers I would ever use are 32 bit anyway.

I am going to do just as you suggest and leave the 64 bit stuff for a future headache.
