7 segment with d-flip flops!

hi guys again!! remember me? 

  i have another easy question for you that troubles me!

i am trying to see how this circuit works! since i am a beginner i made all the steps i found in the fundamental of digital electronics here! i made the truth table then the karnaugh tables and ended up in the equations of each exit! i made my own circuit with and,not and or gates! and it worked perfectly!! in this circuit down there i get lost!! in this vi they use compound arithmetics and some and and nand gates and also d-latches!! i know how a d-flip flop works but here all these combined confuses me! 

can someone please guide me through the vi ?what all these buttons do?

here is the sub vi and if that helps i found what the buttons do! q1-q4->outputs  a1-a4 inputs, clk->clock, co-> carry out

te,pe->counter and program enable and cl-->clear also load --> it loads  p1-p4 value to the exits a1-a4!!!  i need someone to help me understand what is happening in the block diagram!! some kind of circuit analysis! thanks so much again
