A bit of help - Compatibility

Hi All,

This is my first time posting in here so hopefully I have done this correctly!

I am a student at university doing a project which involves two stepper motors, two stepper controllers, a powersupply and hopefully labview!

I was hoping I could get confirmation that my ideas of my set up will work, I am a civil engineer by background but require some electronics help!

The questions is, with the two motors and the two controllers is it possible to program them to both run at the same time from one computer using labview operating in opposite directions and at different speeds? Does my set up allow the functionality to control both together and independently?

Best Wishes,

Mark

Yes, if you use the right equipment

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply. By the right equipment do you mean compatible devices? I have chosen the Mclennan 23HSX-206 which produces around 4.2A max current and the Applied Motion ST-5-Q-RN which handles up to 5A. The Applied motion controller also has he RS485 socket to allow for multiporting. As long as I can control both from Labview at the same time and them operating in different directions and speeds, I will be very happy. Thank you!

I never used it serial, always used a DAQ system from NI.

Anyway most likely it will work. Maybe someone else can answer your question.

Most 3rd party equipment do work perfectly fine with LabVIEW and from what I know this should work well too. The only thing you may need to think about is using the right driver. You could find them on this link : http://www.ni.com/downloads/instrument-drivers/

I hope this will will help you. All the best with your application
