I was able to modify an ActiveX example to achieve my goal of writing a program to extract data from an excel workbook but, I'm interested in finding out how to use other methods and properties that become available when wiring references to various Excel objects. Is there a good source of information out there?

I would also suggest the example code section of our support page.  You can go to www.ni.com/support and then select example code.  A good search key would be "activex" and "excel".  There are several pieces of example code that perform various tasks.
