Yes, I can confirm this - when hiding the subpanel container, the ActiveX control is still visible. I'm not sure whether the bug is in the subpanel control or the AX control, but they are both known to be problematic at times and the combination of the 2 is apparently not too good. I agree - post a link in the bug thread and remember - just a link with a short description. Hopefully, it will remind them of this problem or introduce them to new aspects of it.
As for other ideas - how about not using a subpanel? Instead, make your VIs the same size and make them into MDI windows (search for MDI. You should find some pointers). Obviously, only a workaround, and not a very good one, but that's pretty much the only one I can think of which has similar functionality.
The other option is to find a way to "avoid" the problematic parts of the subpanel-ActiveX combo.
