Thanks devchander, the set file position VI is just what I was looking for. I keep getting confused, because the German version has partly english descriptions, which you cannot find in the german help... This is kind of cumbersome.

have to say I really don't understand why NI LabVIEW team decided to change the functions of the File I/O palette for LV 8...
That was a very bad idea since new functions don't seem to match those we had before or maybe I just didn't find it..

Yes Titou, I agree with you

This was one of the changes that I did not appreciate in LabVIEW 8.0 and higher
but then, as Darwin would have put it, " evolve or perish' Smiley Very Happy

Yeah... I know you´re right and deep inside of me I know I´ll be using LV 8 and enjoying it, but it is to early and now it´s more frustration than anything else... Isn´t it a shame to be so young and already afraid of anything new Smiley Very Happy

My favorite LV version was 6.1, when the Event structure was introduced, that was a revolution !
I didn´t really liked LV 7´s express VIs, which in my opinion, are there just for sales rep to be able to say "no programming skills required" - the most awfull lie about LV !
And about LV 8, well... I should try 8.20, ´cause it sounds great, but 8.0.1 left me doubtfull... I lost hours trying to develop Shared Variable with compact RIO and had to go back to "conventional" TCP to transfert fast data... Hope this will improve !

I´d be interested to hear other point of view... Smiley Surprised

Around 3-4 years back, a client of mine was grumbling about LabVIEW not having Front panel Event handling structure capabilities

Voila!
The very next month LabVIEW 6.1 with event structure was released

LabVIEW 8.2, seems promising. I will explore it

But given my present assignments ( all based on labVIEW 7.1),  I may not be able to do some real hands-on stuff!
