App is looking for old version of runtime engine

My bad...   It sounded like the same issue.

Unfortunately, because of licensing terms and configuration management here, I don't get to be the keeper of my own disks for Labview. So, if I uninstall RTE ver 8.2 to install ver 7.1.1, I will no longer have access to ver 8.2. That means I won't be able to run my own apps just so I can run this old cr*ppy data acq package. Go figure...

Ugh! Smiley Sad

Yes it SURE would be great if NI could make all the RTEs backward compatible wouldn't it?  Install the latest and all the old ones work too.  It might be a bigger install package but that option would be nice to have available.

You do actually do not need the disks to install the RTE's. You can download and install the versions that you need any time.

Does this also apply when installing an application with Run-Time Engine included? Let's say a user has LabVIEW 8.5 and wants to install a 7.1.1 application (using an installer including 7.1.1 Run-Time Engine). Will the installation throw an error? Or will the installation work but running the application will fail? This could be problematic...

Yes, this is my scenario, articulated much better than I was able. Definately problematic.

Since installing an older version of the RTE cannot be done once a newer version is installed, I believe that the installation of the RTE would fail Since the intallation of the RTE does not complete, the actual application that depends on that particular version of the RTE would not run. I understand this can be problematic and inconvinient. I would actually like to investigate this a little further, so PrimaryTemperature, if you can please post the application you are having trouble with so I can download it and test it out it would be great.

I've got a similar problem so I thought I would follow the instructions given. But I'm a bit confused. The vi I'm trying to run is asking for RTE 7.1.1, which is the version installed anyway!

When I try and remove the RTE engine as per the earlier post, it tells me that I must also remove the following :

NI Labview 7.1
NI Labview Application Builder 7.1
NI Labview SignalExpress 2.0
NI-DAQmx 8.5

Is that really going to help? I've tried asking it to repair but that didn't work. So what should I do now?

Julian,

Do you have a VI that you are trying to execute in development mode or is it an EXE? Do you also have any other versions of the Run-Time engine installed?

Eli

It's a VI, not an exe. Anyway, I managed to get the problem sorted.

Because we install from the server, rather than a CD, the LV installer prompts to ask where to find the drivers folder. I had previously pointed it to the newest version I could find (usually a sensible option with most software, but apparently not with LabView!). Eventually I discovered a lurking folder called "Drivers.old"

So I completely uninstalled Labview and all associated NI stuff, and reinstalled, pointing the installer to the aforementioned folder, and it all works OK now.

Bit of a hassle though, and bizarre behaviour! It cost me quite a lot of time to find the problem, and fix it. Still, finally I can talk to the hardware, which is a relief because the example LV vis provided by the manufacturer (CAEN) didn't work at all! But I never wanted to be an industrial automation specialist anyway. I always wanted to be... a lumberjack!!! Leaping from tree-to-tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia etc etc... oh no, who are these men in white coats? Aaarrghhhh!!!

Thanks for replying!

J
