Oh ! I understand... you mean it was a retaliation against a poor joke I made in May 2006 (rated 5 stars), that didn't concerned you, for witch I apologized (with a 5 stars reward again). You have a pretty good memory indeed ! I supposed you discussed this issue with Ray before ?

Keep going, you are on the right track !

I think the offense is coming from the fact its not very nice to rate anyone's answer with 1 star, especially if it is unwarranted. In order to completely cancel out the effect of a 1 star rating on one's average, you need 80 more 5 star ratings to cancel out a single 1 star! (80  five stars plus 1 one star = 401 total stars, 401/81 ratings = 4.95 rating which rounds to 5). For another example, even a 4 star rating is considered a negative because of the way the Proven status is achieved. I had a perfect average of 5.0 (albeit not a huge number of ratings (which in fact makes poor ratings have an even bigger influence), and then I got a 4 star rating. I will need 20 (total) 5 star ratings to cancel out the effect of that 4 star rating and get back to a 5.0 average. I personally don't care a whole lot about stars, but it is nice to know that something I have contributed was deemed by someone to be helpful or insightful. Most of the people on the forums are volunteers, and they offer a huge service to everyone working with labview (I have taught myself labview over the last year, and the forum was and is a huge source of knowledge for me), so I think the least people can do to give thanks is to give high ratings.

While Im sure the one star rating was a joke (just like someone giving me a 4 star rating on a message where I was worried about my average was probably a joke) it has a large effect on the rating averages, and the idea that someone like CC could be demoted to "Trusted" just for a joke is kind of ridiculous. Anyway, thats just my two cents. Im still a fairly new laview programmer...so what do I know??

All I really know is when you are replying and trying to contribute: Shoot for the (five) Stars and even if you miss, you will land among the masses of people being corrected by the more knowledgeable members of this community.

Hi Jeff!

Let me do in words what can't be done with stars.

I have noticed your contribution to the exchange and your participation is greatly appreciated! Smiley Very Happy

Thank you very much for participating.

Don't let the less than perfect rating get you down. When it comes right down to it, only "noobs" have perfect ratings. Smiley Wink

Can't see what you mean, since your link point to :

The links get confused when you have a different setting for "messages per thread page". I think the default is 10/page and you (CC) have set it higher. The link points to page 21, which does not exist if you have bigger pages. (and who doesn't!) 😄

The correct way to quote a partcular post in a thread is to click first on the post number (see image) and then get the link. 😉

(or just right-click the number and select "copy shortcut" in Internet explorer).

Until now, I would expect most people. I believe this is a trick that only very few "power users" used and I always found it great.

I found that setting the number to 15 helps, because usually, by the time the thread goes over a single page (more than 10 posts), people stop posting to it.

Of course, now that you revealed the trick it won't work anymore and I'll lose my only edge. Smiley Sad  Smiley Very Happy

I guess it depends on if you are a "clicker" or a "scroller". 😄

Even some LabVIEW programmers fit one of these patterns.

A "scroller" has a diagram  of 10x10screens and a "clicker" has stacked sequences with 50 frames each. 😉

ah but that depends on what type of scroller...a mouse - wheel scroller will have a diagram of 1x10 screens because they cant scroll sideways! Smiley Very Happy
(unless you have a fancy mousewheel that lets you scroll sideways....)

Jeff,

You can scroll horizontally if you place your mouse over the horizontal scrollbar & roll the mousewheel. Smiley Happy

I dont know if it exists there in LV 7 Express, but in 7.1 it happens.
