Automatic tool. Do everyone use it?

So, you added another language to your repertory, TiTou. Do you also know Italian or German?
Also, I'm curious about what laguage Piękne jest to czego nie robimy z potrzeby is (Czech?) and what it does mean?

Hello Paolo,

I know a few sentences like "de gustibus non est disputandum" in latin, that doesn't mean I am fluent in latin Smiley Very Happy I have never studied latin at school, it is just part of basic culture 😉

About languages, well... during my 6 years studies in 4 different universities I met many people from many countries and I tried to learn a few words in every language I can.
But the languagues I really speak are French, English and Spanish. I started russian for a few months 3 years ago but had not enough time to keep on so it's partly gone.
Also, I have a lot of Polish friends and they keep teaching me a few words from time to time but I wouldn't say I'm really learning polish... I wish I had time but... well... too lazy Smiley Sad

About my signature, you were not far, it is polish Smiley Tongue
Literaly, it means "nice is what we do not by necesity"... I know this translation is quite bad but I'm sure you'll get the idea behind it 😉

I used to hate it, but I've re-tried using it recently, and it seems to be neat.

I work a lot with Enums, and the inability to switch to the text input icon annoys me with the manual selection via keyboard.

The auto tool knows what I want, so it ends up saving me time (and wrist strain).

I've started to like it, but please don't tell anyone.....

Shane,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this, I also use enums quite often and have no particular problems... To add a new item to an enum I always use the 'shift+enter' shortcut (that could be a nice "Darren's nugget" Smiley Very Happy)

If you mean you would like the text input tool to be able to change the value of a constant enum on the diagram, then I agree with you, let's put this on the wish list ! 😉

Titou,

Maybe it's just me (or my Version 6.1) but I don't see anything happening when I use the "shift+enter" shortcut.....

But your further interpretation of my post is really good, using text to change the value of an enum is a feature that should be added....  Good stuff.

In hindsight, why sey of course that's what I meant Smiley Wink

Hmm, I just realised that I can TAB to the text tool.

Hmm, maybe the auto tool isn't so great after all.

Thanks Titou, I learned something new today (Or re-learned something old most likely)

I have tried it several times but don't use it. I don't like it.

Tab and space works fine for me.

I even catch myself Tabbing and Spacing in other programs to get something done. Smiley Very Happy

Thanks for the feedback.

I see many of you do use it and is very happy with it, keep on it. I have noticed it's an advance to do many things with less keystrokes and clicks and to insert data into controls.

but, uff.... it's too much for me.

I'm sorry. You must be too precise where you point your mouse to let LV know what is the tool you need, specially if you are trying to move elements.

If you have positioning tool selected, you move it no matter where you click on an element. With automatic tool, sometimes you have to click in the center (SubVIs, for example), others "not in the center" (Unbundle by name, for example) and other you have to be very precise (moving arrays, for example)

I think my mind is used to TAB and SPACE... I feel unconfortable with me left hand "underused" (well, actually I have been pressing TAB and SPACE)

... I think I'll wait a litte to give it another try, this morning has been hard. Khalid, TiTou and KC: I'm back in the TAB and SPACE again.

I think the group concerned in programing Automatic Tool for LV does program in LV in a different way than me, and so doesn't fit to me completely. May be I'm too strange. But don't worry, so you have a large group that does use it as a very nice improvement.

Thanks for the feedback again,
Aitortxo.

Shane,

The "shift+enter" shortcut should work, as far as I can remember I even used it in LV 5.1...

It works both on the diagram and front-panel.
 - create an enum
 - it comes ready to type-in, so type the first element
 - press "shift+enter" that lets you type the nest element without having to right click and choose add element 😉

I'd be surprised if that doesn't work in your LV 6.1....

TiTou,

I see what you mean now.  However, when I dop an enum onto the FP, the LABEL is highlighted, meaning I have to choose the text tool to enter text, but as from there, it works just as you say.

This will save me quite a lot of clicking in future.  Great tip.

I must read the handbook sometime again....

Thanks,

Shane.
