if you go to the properties of your menu ring, the last submenu in there is called key navigation (it is after documentation and data binding. a bit hidden you have to press the forward button in this properties menu).
this key navigation allows you to focus to the menu using any key you want, then to use any other key for incrementing and decrementing.
