Cannot control probe attenuation and volts per division

When I set the volts per division to 5V the probe attenuation sets back to x10, when I set the attentuation to x1 the volts per division goes to 500mV. I cannot get each setting to be where I need it at the same time. Only one or the other can be set. Anyone else seen this issue? I sending commands to a Tektronix TDS 2002B.

I was wondering if you are using the instrument driver for your device. If you are is this happening in one of the examples or in a program you created your self? What version of Ni VISA and NI 488.2 are you using? Also how are you programming your device, is it in LabVIEW, CVI...? Look forward to your response.
