Cannot install DAQmx as have a higher version but I need the earlier installed too?

I currently have LabVIEW 2018 and 2015 installed. I have 2018 on a year license only, which is why I have left 2015 installed as I have this fully licensed. My 2018 license expires soon. I have written an application in 2018 that uses DAQmx. I have saved this as a 2015 application so I can continue to develop it once my 2018 expires.

I now need to install DAQmx for 2015 as I only have it for 2018. It does not appear to allow me to do this. Just keeps on telling me that I have a later version installed. I cannot yet uninstall the 2018 version as I am using that also at the moment.

Is this expected or am I missing something? Appreciate any info as I need this sorted ASAP and not sure whether I am attempting to do something that cannot be done.

You can't have different versions installed at the same time, you have to uninstall and reinstall.

However, you should actually be able to keep using 2018.  They support their "current year" plus the 3 previous years, and don't have a license fee.  So DAQmx 2018 supports LabVIEW 2015 just fine.

Hi Kyle,

I do actually have 2 versions installed and apart from this one application they both work fine. I think what you are saying its that my 2018 version will work fine with a 2015 application? My issue is that I have written the application in 2018 but this is soon to expire. I have saved the application as a 'previous version' back to 2015 so I can continue to work on it when my 2018 expires (next week).

I have tried to do some work on the 2015 version but it won't work with the 2018 DAQmx (I think what you are saying it that it would work the other way round).

I think my only solution is to continue working on it in 2018. Save back to 2015 at the last moment (next week), then when I uninstall 2018 I should be able to install 2015 DAQmx?

Was just hoping to have both running but I think that you are saying this is the issue. I am not seeing this issue with another 2015 application I have been working on but that does not use DAQmx

Hi Lucither,

What specific problems are you having with your 2015 applications? As per the link below NI-DAQmx 18.X is compatible with LabVIEW 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. You should not have any trouble running your LabVIEW 2015 application.

Don't confuse versions of LabVIEW with drivers.  "2018" is not a version of DAQmx.  DAQmx (and all NI drivers) are revisioned with their own numbering schemes.  It matches the year, but it's always 18.0 or 18.5 or whathaveyou, not 2018 or 2018 SP1.  The driver you install will usually support that year's LabVIEW release plus the three previous versions of LabVIEW.  If you check the readme, you'll see this.  (For example, the NI-DAQmx 18.6 readme claims LabVIEW 2015-2018 support https://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/374768aa.html).

You can have many versions of LabVIEW installed on the same PC, but you can only have ONE version of DAQmx installed on your PC at a time.  Given your two LabVIEW versions, NI-DAQmx 18.6 is the latest version of DAQmx that supports both versions.  Uninstall whatever DAQmx version you have and install DAQmx 18.6, and that should work.

DAQmx 18.6 will work with LabVIEW 2015.  So you should be fine just installing DAQmx 18.6.  You may need to reinstall DAQmx to get the LabVIEW 2015 support installed.  NI-DAQmx and LabVIEW Compatibility
