Cannot run commercial software written using v7.1 when v8.5 is installed

When last we beat this subject to death the bottom line was MAX only supports two version back (8.5, 8.2, 8.0) and it DELETES support for earlier versions.

I have 4 PC's at my desk ( to support apps going back to BridgeVIEW 2.1) and have started using multiple boots on the latest machine because my KVM has run out of ports.

After finding out that I couldn't see the COM ports through MAX, I went and downloaded the NI Serial Driver v3.2. After that, I could see my COM ports in MAX, but the commercial software still couldn't find the ports.

Then I installed NI-VISA Run-time engine v4.3. After a quick restart, I leaped for joy as the software communicated with the device. Thanks guys!
