I hope he's expecting to get the last value in the array because that's what he's going to get.
Another newbie confounded by the DDT (Damned Data Type). 
It's supposed to make things easier for them but it appears that many of them think it's a mind-reading conversion tool that magically outputs whatever they desire. Sometimes it's just best to learn things the hard right way.
