Copying Labview CD roms

I just copied the CD Roms onto some r/w CD roms. When I tried to install labview 7.0 express I get a error message "setup.ini not found"

Can anyone shine some light please.

What's wrong with installing from the original CDs?

Well, there are two possibilities:
(1) The burn did not work right and something got corrupted. Try again.
(2) NI might incorporate some copy protection scheme that prevents casual copying.

I've never tried to copy a NI CD, so I am not sure. Do a search for "setup.ini" on the original CD and the copy. Any obvious differences?

Is there a reason that you are copying the orignal CDs?
Do you have a multiseat license and are having issues with that?
I would suggest calling NI and asking about the issue, because I know the intent is for you to not copy the Cds.

There may be good reasons to do so.

When we received LV7 we soon after could not find one of the CDs. Since we've got a subscription and get 4 new sets a year we could wait 4 months...but fortunately we always take a backup of brand new sets, otherwise we would have been stuck for some time, very inconvenient. I haven't checked what policy NI has on this, but having a backup sure does not feel wrong.

I just purchased LabVIEW 8.2 and after opening the cheap cardboard CD holder the LabVIEW 8.2 CD slipped out and dropped to the floor.  There was nothing holding the CD in place and I sure hope it still installs properly.  I remember seeing someone pull a similar carboard CD holder out of their briefcase once only to have two halves of a broken LabVIEW installation CD drop out of it and onto the floor as well.

Point being: I want to make backups of this, just as soon as I purchase quality jewel cases to store the originals AND backups in.  Is anyone familiar with NI's policy?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 8.2 version that you can download is the full version. Only activation/regisitration prevent functions from being used. So I guess this version should be the same as the CD version, and copying it should not be a problem?

Again, I'm not 100% sure about this. More like 60%...

Wiebe.

Wiebe,

You are correct. When you download LabVIEW from the LabVIEW 8.20 Evaluation Software Download page, you can use your license and activation code to unlock the version you've purchased. Therefore the media isn't totally necessary unless you don't have access to the internet.
