Core 1, exercise 3-1 question

I'm new to LabVIEW.  Doing the Core 1 course online.

Exercise 3-1 calls for an NI Instrument Simulator to simulate communication with an instrument over GPIB.

However, I don't have one of those. 

Is there a way to complete the exercise without it?

It only calls for a simulator if you don't have a real instrument. It specifies GPIB as it requires less setup than RS232 or other protocols as the setup is in the H/W.
Do you have access to any GPIB instruments (easiest) or RS232 instruments?
if not you can probably purchase a really simple RS232 thermometer from somewhere online for £20 or less.

Thanks James.  We have some mass flow meters with RS232 connectors.

I'll try using one of those.
