DAQ card not detected

Hi
I have a strange problem. I got a new PC with ISA slots (SOYO motherboard) to run my applications faster. I tried installing my DAQ card (AT-MIO-16E 10) in its ISA slot but the windows wont see it (I tried windows 98, windows 2000 and XP, with the latest versions of the DAQ drivers). It is not a slot problem as windows detects and installs fine my GPIB card if put in the same slot.
What worries me is that windows doesnt even see my DAQ card as an unknown device. So, I cannot perform any remedies suggested in NI troubleshooting website. Needless to say that I have tried different ISA slots but the result is same. Of course I am installing the driver first before putting in the hardware.
It is not a problem with the DAQ card either. When I put it back into its old machine (a P2, windows 98), it works just fine.
Could anybody suggest any solution?

Hi,

This is a strange problem indeed since your DAQ board is one of our plug and play AT boards. It should be recognized by the operating system.

My only guess is that the ISA slots on your new computer are not exactly to the correct specifications. We have seen this problem in the past. Boards will work in some motherboards but not others. The reason is that some motherboard manufacturers do not have their slots to the right specification and they don't have the correct voltages.

Since the card works in another computer, I'm sure the card is fine. I would try contacting the manufacturer of the motherboard and see if they have any information.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am also suspecting the motherboard. But, if the ISA specifications are not correct, how does it works with my NI GPIB card, which also is a PNP device?

Idea...

You might try assigning an IRQ in the bios. (should be under PNP settings)
Sometimes the ISA will not auto assign for some devices

Hi,
I remember exactly similar problem with me. I do not exactly remember the step that NI tech support suggested me.
Did you look at
control panel>>system>>hardware>>devicemanager ?
If not, please check there if your DAQ card is there or not.

Sometimes rebooting the compter may help. As far I remember, firewall was interfering in my case (not exactly remember how). Try switching off the firewall or similar program.

I did try to assign specific IRQs in the BIOS. But the system still refused to see the card 😞

Hi Rajeev,

A few things to try:
Go to Add Hardware and manually add the device as a Data Acquisition Device.

Which DAQ driver version do you have? Have you try reinstalling or perhaps updating to a newer version (the newest one available with your device and OS is DAQ 7.4).

Thanks,
Lesley
