I am having trouble getting the LabVIEW Database Connectivity Toolkit (provided with LabVIEW 8.0 Professional) to function properly under Windows Vista. In particular, the "DB Tools Open Connec (String).vi" is not functioning properly. The reason appears to be due to the fact that Windows Vista uses the Windows Data Access Components (Windows DAC) 6.0, while Windows 2000/XP utilizes Microsoft Data Access Components (Microsoft DAC) 2.8.
The "DB Tools Open Connec (String).vi" seems to only work with the DataDirect 32-BIT SequeLink 5.5 data source that is provided with Microsoft DAC 2.8. Is there a work-around for Windows Vista and the associated Windows DAC 6.0? How is this resolved under Windows 7?

Hi,
LabVIEW 8.0 even does not support VISTA, neither the Database and Connectivity Toolkit which comes along with it.
Neverthless I'm interested in what error do you get?

Hi,
As Christian said, support for Vista was not added until LabVIEW 8.2, as stated in this KnowledgeBase article.

Hi Christian_M,
I haven't had a problem running LabVIEW 8.0 Professional under Windows Vista. However, the Database Connectivity Toolkit doesn't seem to be compatible. The "DB Tools Open Connect (String).vi" has errors (it won't compile). Please see the attached screen-shot. The problem is the ADODB._Connection input that is wired to the "Automation Open" function. There is no appropriate selection to be made for this input under Windows Vista.
Any suggestions? Is there a work-around?
Thanks a lot for the support!

Hi!
I am having the exact same issue with the Database Connectivity Toolkit (1.0.1) under Vista and Windows 7
with LV 7.1.
The ADODB._connection object can't be found. I have WDAC installed, but still the error is the same as yours.
Has this issue ever been resolved?
Cheers,
Michael

This problem seems to 'randomly' occur on some Vista and Win7 machines. I can't get the Dbtoolkit to run on my Win7 machine, though i have seen it work on other machines. Somehow LV cannot find the ADO ActiveX objects even though they are installed. I have not, however, been able to find any differences between a working machine and a non-working one.
To be honest, i've given up and am running LV8.0 in XPMode now until we upgrade to a newer version of LV.

I'm experiencing problems using Database Connectivity Toolkit and LabVIEW 2009 with WINDOWS VISTA.
From which version onwards the toolkit is supposed to be compatible with VISTA?

The Database Connectivity Toolkit is compatible with Vista from version 2009 onwards (same as LabVIEW). One thing to bear in mind is that the toolkit is only 32-bit. It will run in Vista 64-bit, but it will run on the Windows on Windows (WOW) 32-bit emulation layer.
Since this thread was started on the compatibility topic, you may get a quicker response if you start a new thread with details on the specific issue you are seeing with the toolkit in Vista.
Good luck!
