What are the differences between the academic and the regular versions of LabView?

There are actually three items:

(1) LabVIEW at the regular list price.
(2) LabVIEW with academic discount. (75%!)
(3) LabVIEW Student edition

"Academic" is just a discount. You select from the regular catalog what you want, but you must be part of an academic institution.

The student edition cannot be used for research. It is only for personal educational use by students, faculty, and staff. It is a terrific deal at ~$70 including the book and has very few limitiations.

Check the above links for more details.

Thanks for responding. I don't know anything about LabView, but I'm involved in a project that uses LabView for data acquisition and I'd like to know a bit more about how it works. That qualifies as personal education 🙂

My question ought to have been phrased as "Will the academic/student version of Labview 7 run code that was written in the regular version of LabView 7?" Or is this one of the limitations? I can't find a list of these limitations, but what I would need to do is run some code that was written in the regular version of LabView.

As far as I can tell it will, but I'd like to be sure before I spend the $$.

Well, you can always get a free evaluation copy of LabVIEW. It runs for a month (I think).

Most of code is compatible between regular and student version. (See the FAQ). There are probably some limitations with respect to to use of external code and non-NI hardware.

I think the best option would be to contact your friendly local NI rep. He/She will be able to answer all your questions in detail. They're all great!
