Digital Signal Processing and Applications with the C6713 and C6416 DSK

Dear All,
I am new comer in LabVIEW software, currently I have the DSP C6416 DSK from Texas Instrument. I need your help relating how to communicate between DSP and LabVIEW 2015 and how to make a programing after it've successful to be read by LabVIEW. Please help and share your experience and thank you for your attention.

Hi Destra,

I am not very familiar with NI's DSP solutions or the C6713 and C6516 DSK. However, I did a bit of research and found some stuff that might help you out.

I found a book listed on our forums. The post mentions that "LabVIEW VIs and files are used as examples in the textbook." This may be a helpful getting started reference. I was able to find several other forum posts referencing this kit, but they are all quite old.

Dear David,

Could you help me finding the mistake in attached file where if it's opened with LabVIEW 2015 then the error message appears. Please give me instructions so that the file can be run on LabVIEW 2015. I am very appreciate for your response to help me.

Best Regards,

What error message do you get?

Hi Destra,

Did you create those VIs yourself? I saw the same VIs here, but it seemed like a lot of the required VIs were missing. I was able to find this download which has support of LabVIEW 8.6 and lots of shipping examples that aren't broken. There may be a way to port it to a newer version of LabVIEW, but I probably wouldn't go down that road.

What is your application? I would look into our current FPGA products for DSP in cRIO, sbRIO, or FPGA expansion chassis. It looks like we have some shipping examples of filters implemented on DSP48E slices. If you are working on an academic/research project, you may already have access to our FPGA and Real-Time modules.

Hi David,
Currently, I prepare the proposal to get approval for purchase of some NI products. We hope the NI product can a bridging of some absolute equipment in laboratory to integrated with LabVIEW. I want this research will be give a success story if our DSP card from Texas Instrument DSK6416T type in my laboratory can be integrated into LabVIEW. This success research will be part in the proposal for purchase some latest NI product and it's accordance with future laboratory needs. Please, help me to integrate the DSK6416T into LabVIEW to achieve success. I have attached (send via Email) the filter sound file  that it's applying by use DSK6416T and LabVIEW but still failure communicate. For your help and support, thank you very much.

Hi Destra,

Thank you for providing additional information about your project and this opportunity. Our forums are a great resource, but not ideal for extended engagements. They are more appropriate for specific questions about a topic, rather than a progressive discussion on system level developments. NI has different levels of support offerings from monitoring forums to dedicated support to customized system implementation. I would reach out to your local NI sales team to let them know about this opportunity and discuss what support options you would have available. They would also be able to talk with you about our product portfolio to see if there is something that would better meet your needs. I mentioned some of these above, and you will find more active support from NI and our forums if you used other hardware.

I can still look into it a little more, but without the hardware you are using I can only speculate. What have you done so far to get communication working between the DSK and LabVIEW? Have you looked at the manual I suggested or tried converting the DSP module?

Hi David,
Thank you for your quick reply and informing my plan to your local NI sales team, I am waiting for that. I tried to learn quickly about the manual that you suggested. Please your help to give the access download LabVIEW 8.6 and fully addon module one of which is advance signal processing toolkits via email (destra_andika_pratama@polsri.ac.id). Thank you for your help and support.

Hi Destra,

If you have an active service contract, which comes with LabVIEW for the first year after purchase and can be subsequently renewed, then you can access and activate older versions of LabVIEW. It looks like we don't have the Advanced Signal Processing toolkit available online, so you would need to go through a paid support channel to get it. I wouldn't recommend doing any development in LabVIEW 8.6 since it is over 10 years old and isn't supported on anything newer than Windows Vista.

Taking a step back, the LabVIEW 8.6 route isn't ideal at all. What exactly are you trying to do? Have you considered some of our more modern approaches to DSP?
