Do I need to install LabVIEW 8.0 prior to installing LabVIEW 8.2?

No, you can have both installed at once (presuming your licencing is all in order).

You may run into problems with toolkits though, if you have them.  There are lots of threads on here that discuss what to do if that is the case too.

Ok but if I have both copies and neither has been installed can I just install 8.2 and do nothing with the 8.0 version?

That's totally up to you.  Depends on your needs for support for earlier versions.

LV8 can support 7.1 (saving back 1 version), whereas LV8.2 can only save as early as 8.

Ooooohhh ok thanks that helps alot.  I have had 8.0 for a couple months and hadn't installed it and then I received 8.2.  I currently have 5.1 on my computer and was just about to skip installing 8.0 so thanks for you help.
