Do LabVIEW NXG cluster property nodes support fully qualified names as do the LabVIEW Classic unbundle nodes?

Solved!
Go to solution

I always used the full names in LabVIEW unbundle nodes, but I don't see that option in NXG. If I use a cluster TypeDef twice inside a cluster I have to unbundle it in two steps to know what I'm accessing. This seems like a step backward if displaying fully qualified names is not supported.

Do you want to show the full names on NXG?

I see the behavior but, do I have any misunderstanding?

Yes, I couldn't find "Hide/Show Full Names" options on NXG.

Ugh, that would make my unbundling take up half of my block diagram.

(Also ugh!  Everytime I look at NXG graphics, I feel like I'm being sent back to 1st grade with fat crayons and blunt scissors.  The excessive thick curvy graphics feel juvenile and off-putting, rather than giving the impression of a professional tool.   Kinda like if you hired a carpenter and he showed up with thick plastic brightly colored Fisher-Price hammers and saws.)

ALERT! LabVIEW's subscription-only policy came to an end (finally!). Unfortunately, pricing favors the captured and committed over new adopters -- so tread carefully.

Okay, now I am seeing that behavior too. But I swear that yesterday I was getting the short names, and I could not find a switch for it. I do not know what changed. Is there a switch somewhere?

Kevin Price, I think that I agree with you, but I'll give it a chance. It isn't as bad as the Silver controls (I only learned last year that the Silver controls can be edited so that the are not nearly as busy and space inefficient).

I'm not a huge fan visually, but they actually did make the extra thick graphics for a reason:

The goal (for better or worse) is to make the wires lay out on a consistent grid. This is in an attempt to get rid of unnecessary wire bends. I've never used it so I can't say how well it works in practice.

Kevin,

Thanks for the post. It is good to know. But that does not address the bubbliness of it all. 😕

That and the pastel nature of the colors.

Off topic for sure, but the colors don't bother me so much. But the design is too much in line with the Silver controls. They should have hired Jony Ive as a consultant. But I'll have to see if I can get used to it. I did just notice that the case structure no longer changes color when connected to an error cluster. I liked that feature.
