Does IMAQ vision support 10bit images without downconverting to 8 bits

Hello All,

Does IMAQ Vision tools support 10bit images without downconverting the image to 8bits.  I would like to construct a 10bit histogram.

Thanx,
Karl

Hello Karl,

Thank you for using our discussion forum. Yes, the IMAQ Vision does support 10 bit images. Monochrome images with bit depths greater than 8-bits are stored in a 16-bit image format. You can use the IMAQ Histogram.vi included with the IMAQ Vision Development Module to construct the histogram of a 10-bit image.

Hello Nipun,

I am using a JAI  CV M7+CL 10bit color camera and IMAQ Vision tools histogram vi which is remapping the image to 8 bits in the histogram.
Is there anything other than connecting the image reference to the input of this vi necessary?

Hello Karl,

The color IMAQ Histogram only takes in RGB32 as input. Since your camera is a 10bit color camera the images you get should be of type RGB64. In order to take a histogram of this image type first extract the three color planes using the IMAQ extract color planes.vi and then use an IMAQ histogram.vi for each of the three color planes. I've attached an example that can get you started. You will require LabVIEW 7.1 and Vision 7.1.1 to be able to use this example.

Hello Nipun,

Thanx for the reply.  Actually We also have a CV M4+CL which is 10bit grayscale.  I found the number of classes input on the IMAQ histogram.vi
I set this to 1023 and of course get 10bit results.
