Ok now let me refresh this twice and ask ssteel whether hyperterminal and lv running simultaneously was the problem

well, no windows were open apart from the measurement and automation explorer and it still was saying the port was busy. So i shut down and restarted, and it started working? Have no idea why it didnt work before?

Was computer powered up with LV running when you moved the PC?  If so you may have caused a problem with the VISA driver.
