Hello EJuniorR,
Thanks for contacting National Instruments. I am assuming you are using Windows XP. Traditional DAQ is currently not supported on Windows Vista.
The error you have experienced is a Microsoft installer error. An explanation of the error can be found on the Microsoft website. It seems that most of the information regarding this error is program specific, the most common being located here.
All of the National Instruments installers use the Microsoft installer utility. Please ensure that you have the latest version of the utility. Also make sure that you have administrator rights on the computer. You can also consider running the installer cleanup utility to remove old Window’s Installer configuration information.
Also make sure to download the installer to the hard disk and then run it. There have been install errors associated with running the install file directly from the website.
Please post back if you have any questions or concerns.

I'm having the same problem trying to install traditional NI-DAQ libraries/drivers on an xp computer from the "device driver refrence cd" from LabWindows/CVI version 8.0.
The microsoft website says "If you are a user experiencing difficulty with your computer either during or after installing or uninstalling an application, you should contact customer support for the software you are trying to install or remove.", so that pretty much brings me back here. The second link is more helpful, but since the problem is program specific, I need to know which services to try disabling, or which registry entries to modify for this particular problem. I don't belive we are allowed to change the versions of standard software on our computers, but I assume they are kept fairly up to date. And on the final suggestion, I wasn't installing off a website so it doesn't apply to me.
The computers here have many security restrictions enabled, and I did not have this problem when I tested on a regular PC. I need to know what to tell an admin is wrong in advance to be able to fix this easily.

Hello GrtAndPwrflTrtl,
In order to install Traditional DAQ, you will need to be an administrator (or have administrator privileges) on the computer of interest. It is also recommended to turn off any virus scanners or firewalls during the installation, although this normally does not cause an issue. But you will definitely need permissions to install software on the computer. From what it sounds like, it looks like you don’t have full permissions on your computer. Your IT department should be able to either give you permissions or be able to install the software for you. I have also seen an issue where the use of a dock for a laptop prevented the installation from occurring and removing the laptop from the dock allowed installation to proceed. Are you using a laptop?

Hello GrtAndPwrflTrtl,
What you are saying could be a larger issue than just needing to be an admin, but I am not quite sure yet. Has your IT department tried installing Traditional DAQ yet? Your first post makes it seem that they have not yet tried, but your second post implies that they have tried. To install a driver off of a CD, being an administrator should be enough unless there are extra restrictions placed on administrators attempting to install software. If the IT department has already tried to install the CD and this did not work, do you mind giving me some more information on the system you are attempting to install it on (OS, service packs, security settings, etc.)? Thanks!

Hello GrtAndPwrflTrtl,
When you say that the Traditional DAQ libraries are not installed, are you getting the error from the first post in this thread when you attempt to install the driver? I want to make sure that we are proceeding down the right path on this. If you aren’t getting any errors, then Traditional DAQ might have installed correctly. I noticed that you said that the Traditional DAQ libraries did not install properly. You can check the Traditional DAQ readme for the paths to the examples for different text based languages. If you are searching for LabVIEW examples using the NI-Example finder, you need to browse according to directory structure to find the installed examples.
A point that I meant to make earlier, is that there is a new version of DAQ drivers for National Instruments products called DAQmx. Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) is an older driver with outdated APIs for developing data acquisition, instrumentation, and control applications for older National Instruments DAQ devices. DAQmx is continuously being updated. If you are starting a new application, I highly recommend that you use DAQmx instead of Traditional DAQ because upgrades to it are being made constantly. Pretty much the only reason you would want to use Traditional DAQ for a new application is if you are using a device that is only supported in Traditional DAQ (you can check the readme for this info).

Hello GrtAndPwrflTrtl,
It looks like there is an issue with the Windows Installation. Have you tried installing a version of this driver from the NI website? Each version of the driver is ensured to be compatible with the latest Windows Installers so trying a newer version of the driver could help.
