Error Messages at Startup

A few years ago a LabVIEW application was developed and built using LV v.7.1.   Recently the customer wanted some changes made and an updated version using LV v.8.6 was developed and the application was rebuilt.  The end-user says that the application installed OK but when they start it, there are a couple of error messages, which are attached.   After closing the error messages and selecting the 3PS AMS 1 button in the taskbar the program start and apparently runs.   It’s not clear to me what the NI LabVIEW Run Tim… button is in the task bar. This particular application has been through several successful changes and updates.  However, this is a problem that’s unclear to me.This application uses a NI PCI485/8 card and uses NI Serial.  Regretfully I did not record the NI Serial version.  However, I know it’s an older version like 1.8.  The serial number for the PCI485/8 card is 11DDA24.I need to confirm if the application runs correctly after selecting the 3PS icon.   The end-user with the application is out at sea and they are somewhat difficult to contact.  In the mean time can anyone comment on what the error messages mean? Thanks,Dave

In the future please do not post screenshots embedded inside of Word documents. Word is a proprietary format, and not everyone has it. Please post screenshots in PNG format as they are quite small.

As to your issue: Is NI-Serial actually installed on the target computer?

It's not clear what is meant by "actually installed."  NI Serial was originally installed on the computer using the CD that came with the PCI485/8 card.  In other words, NI Serial was not installed using an Additional Installer within Application Builder.  Only LV v.8.6 was installed with Application Builder.  Please let me know if this does not answer your question.

Are PDF's acceptable as attachments?

Thanks for the quick response...

dj143,

PDFs should be fine as the readers are free and it was relased as an open format.

How are you getting this file from the development computer to your test machine is it an executable, installer, or .vi?  If it was an installer what programs were included to be installed with that installer?

For the second error:

  1. Does the user running this have administrator privledges?  If not that would explain this error as we need to access mscomctl.ocx per this Microsoft article
  2. Does it have anything to do with IMAQ as discussed in this post

By "actually installed" I meant that it was simply installed, either separately or through your installer. The button that you're seeing in the taskbar is Microsoft's MSI Installer. It looks to me like when the LV8.6 Runtime got installed the dependency related between LV 7.1 and NI-Serial got messed up. You could try uninstalling NI-Serial and re-installing it. You may also want to consider updating to the latest version of NI-Serial.

It's not really an issue of "acceptable" as much as an issue of convenience and consideration. A PDF is far more accessible since readers are free. However, why go to the trouble of placing a screenshot inside a PDF and uploading the PDF when you can simply post the screenshot? A PNG of a screenshot will be a few hundred kilobytes. Your Word document was over 2 MB.   Smiley Wink

Hi Jason,

It's an executable with LV 8.6 provided as an Additional Installer.  NI SERIAL was previously installed using a CD.

I'm confirming the administraive privelege issue.  (I'm at a disadvantage in that computer is not available to me.)

What is the other object in the task bar?

Dave
