Find Resource.vi returns disconnected resources

When I use the Find Resources.vi in LabVIEW 7.0, it returns resources that are no longer connected to the PC.  Windows XP Pro Device Manager and MAX do not show these additional resources (as an example, a USB to RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 adapter made by ICP.CON, part number I-7561 was connected and mapped as COM7, but has since been disconnected from the PC and the PC has been re-booted).

Is this a bug in the Find Resources.vi, or is there a way to remove these additional resources, or is there a programmatic way to determine which resources are truely available?

bruceheadley,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments.

The VISA Find Resource.vi will display the current resources as well as any devices that were assigned an alias on your system.

To check or remove the alias, please follow the following steps:
The newer versions of MAX have a utility to configure your aliases. To access this utility, open MAX, and select Tools>>NI-VISA>>VISA Options. Then select "Aliases" and all the aliases stored on your system will show up here. Find your GPIB device and try to add an alias. To clear out an individual alias, right click on it and select "Clear Alias". There are buttons to Rename, Add or Clear All aliases at the bottom.

Also I found a Knowledgebase: Why Does VISA Find Resource.vi Find Two COM Ports in My System When I Only Have One Serial Port? that may also apply to the current situation your referring to. Also please reference KnowledgeBase: Find VISA Resource Name Programmatically, which I attached the VI written in LabVIEW 7.0 for you.

Please let me know if this is able to answer your question or if you would like more information.

Thank you very much and have a great day.
