Graphing data from multiple channels

Hi there,

I am still a beginner at LabVIEW and I could use some guidance.  Right now I am developing a GUI that would be used display signals from multiple channels.  There are a total of 16 analog cards and each card has 16 channels.  I am simply interfacing labVIEW with a micrcontroller which would be used to transmit data serially to the computer from multiple channels (a total of 16 channels and 16 boards).  Now data is being streamed to the computer serially, and there is a sync word (E7FF) which would be used to distinguish between the channels of each board.  For example data from the first channel of each board would be transmitted to the computer followed by the sync word, then data from the second channel would be transmitted once again followed by the sync word and so on, until it reaches the final channel where it will then reset, going back to the first channel of each board.  In the GUI I would need to read the data identify the first sync word and then plot the correct data points of each graph (each graph would be associated with a channel of each board, so in total 16x16 graphs).  I would then need to repeat this process identifying the second sync word and graph for the next channel.  Then once the sixteenth time the sync was identified, the process needs to reset, being to graph for the first channel of each board.  So my question is how can I do this in labVIEW.  I need to know how can I identify the first sync word, then separate the data and plot according to the proper channel of each board.  Then I need to identify the second occurrence of the sync word and once again plot to the corresponding channel of each board.

If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

The concept is understood. So, what is the help you need? Are you facing any issues/errors?

Post the code that you have developed so far.

Hi,

I could suggest to fit four graphs on a single tab page and use four/eight tab pages (simplest method, once you reach and advance level consider using Subpanels) to view different graphs. (You could consider including upto 8 plot maximum in a single graph for better viewing of plot)

Since the data is from the serial port, as soon as the data is read, create a vi which will seperate all the channel data based on the sync word (E7FF) as mentioned in your post. Use serail read/write vis...if not used yet (refer the example finder).

Hope this helps.

Well my problem is that I don't know how to do this in LabVIEW, as I have stated that I am fairly new to LabVIEW

Are you using the same sync word between all of the channels? If so, I don't see how you could possibly know which channel is which.
