HP Agilent 8714ES

It looks like your hardware is not installed properly. In MAX can you go to software and check that NI-488.2 and NI-VISA are installed. Can you please tell me what versions you have. If they are installed, go to deice manager (control panel > system > hardware) and check for the GPIB interface. Is there a yellow exclamation mark by it? If so then right click and upadate driver.

Let me know how all that goes.

I appreciate your help with this.  In MAX, it looks as though both NI-488.2 (version 2.52) and NI-VISA (version 4.1) are installed.

I can't find a GPIB interface in the hardware manager... see attached screenshot.

I believe that the PCI simple communications controller that you highlighted is in fact the GPIB controller. The exclamation mark here explains your problems. Right click on it and update the driver. Hopefully this will solve your problem. If it doesn't, the chances are the board is defective but let's not go there yet!

Some success, I think.

The GPIB card is now showing up in device manager and MAX - no sign of the network analyser though.

Have you tried right clicking on the GPIB device in MAX and selecting scan for instruments?

There does not seem to be an option to scan for devices when I right click the GPIB icon.

The GPIB icon is under PXI chassis in MAX, not dirctly under Device and Interfaces - see screenshot.

I am using a different device but see the attatched screen shot to see where the GPIB section should appear in MAX. I have put the links to the latest versions of NI-VISA and NI-488.2 which I would recommend you re-install. With any luck this should get you going.

I have downloaded and installed both of the above, but to no avail I'm afraid.

I have been playing around with a PXI system today and am puzzled as to what could have caused your issue.Have you got another PXI chassis you could try? If all your drivers are up to date then it could well be a software issue with MAX. The only way forward I can suggest from here is to use something like msi blast to uninstall all the the NI software from the machine and start again. See link below
