Home Automation

Hi,

I want to build up an home Automation system (being able to power on and off  electrical instrument such light, air conditioner and more) controlled by Labview code.

So I am looking for power switch -switch than can transfer high voltage, such 230 V (AC)  that can be programmable by Labview  (and it better to support wifi control).

I found on ebay a cheap solution for this project (but I am not sure it can be programed by Labview):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WIFI-Remote-Sonoff-4CH-Din-Rail-Mounting-Wireless-Smart-Switch-Home-Automati...

1. Do you know if this instrument can be programed by labview ?

2. Is there any NI hardware dedicate for wireless controlled power switching (with a reasonably price for home-use)?

Thanks Harel

If you are looking for hardware for hobby/home projects, I would not go on the NI route. This is not the price range I imagine you want to spend.

There are lots of options if you consider using Raspberry PIs or Arduinos. You can get a Raspberry PI 3 from 30 EUR, and find lots of cheap modules/boards to attach to it. It has wifi and bluetooth as well. One advantage is the low power consumption, so you do not need a PC or laptop to run.

For the programming side, check out LINX: https://www.labviewmakerhub.com/doku.php?id=libraries:linx:start

Note that, LINX only supports LabVIEW 32bit, up to version 2014! One reason is that, the LV Home Edition is restricted to version 2014 (product to address home/hobby users).

About that ebay product: the page mentions iOS and Android app support, but the question is that, whether the manufacturer released an SDK or not? Some way to access the product from 3rd party software/platform...If so, you can definitely program this module from any program language, including LabVIEW...

I use a (Beckhoff) PLC ..  industrial quality and specs .. no problems the last 10 years (except one relay to replace)

All kinds of IO.. adds up like Lego 😉

The modern ethernet based bus system can be linked to LabVIEW ...
