How do I connect and configure UMI-7764 with US Digital MD2S drive?

Solved!
Go to solution
I'm using the 7332 motion control board and the UMI-7764 with a stepper motor. The US Digital MD2S drive is a microstepping motor drive and does not have differential + and - terminals. Rather, the 8 terminals on the drive are labled as follows:

Isolator Ground
Reduce
Current
Inhibit
Step
Direction
Isolated Power
Non-Isolated
Non-Isolated

Inhibit, Step, & Direction seem straight forward since the UMI has terminals labled as such. What about the others? No additional devices are being used - no encoders, limit swithces, etc - just basic motion.

EFD,

If you are simply controlling a stepper motor with no feedback or other signals, then the Step and Direction signals will be all you need.  The other signal connections on your drive are going to depend on the specific drive itself, so I cannot say specifically what all of them are meant for.  Typically, the Ground and Power connections are where you would connect an external power supply.  Please let me know if this is helpful.
