How do I identify connector of control or indicator?

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I am having trouble seeing the wood from the trees.  When I want to see which connector terminal is connected to a particular control/indicator, I have to click on  each connector in the connection pane until the control/idicator is highlighted.  Is there a quicker way?

Not really. There shouldn't be that many, and from the color you should have a hint which is which, error clusters are one color, text controls are pink, numeric are the color of their underlying type (double are orange, integers are blue). How many connectors are you creating?

I usually find that the Context Help window is pretty effective here.

Thanks Putnam,

It's mainly a problem when I edit a vi I wrote a little while ago.  However, as you say I should be able to work it out from the colour of the connector.

I would have thought it would be good if you could right click on the control/indicator and  click "Find connector".

Thanks again

Hi Darin,

Do you mean using the context help by hovering over the icon of the VI in the block diagram of the VI that calls the VI I am editing.  If so, it just means a few extra clicks to get the calling VI's block diagram visible.

If you click the wiring tool on the control/indicator, with the connector pane visible, it will hilight the connector, it works both directions.

Ah!  the penny is beginning to drop.  How do I get a wiring tool to show up anywhere other than the connector pane when I am editing a front panel?

I have tried the old click on the Tab button to cycle through tools- no wiring tool there.

If you have the Context Help window open and hover over the Connector Pane you will see all of the connections (unless you play around with optional connections and display options of the CH window).  It would be useful perhaps if the CH window gave you the option to view the icon or the ConPane.

I actually wrote my own Conector Pane editor and my eyes and carpal tunnels have never been happier.

Sorry about that,

I knew it would be something simple.  I had never noticed that the names of the connectors were shown in the help window when I hover over the connector pane.  Maybe it's because I keep on turning the help window off because the location I have it is always on the top right of the screen where the front panel connector pane usually is.

Sorry for wasting your time -  and causing the carpel tunnel pain.

Every user I get to unleash the power of the Context Help saves my carpal tunnels much more abuse in the long run!  Smiley Happy
