NI has a demo on how to make a 3 position switch on their website, unfortunately it is in LabVIEW 8.6 and I am unable to open it with 2011. Is there a more updated version of this example, or anywhere I can find detailed instructions on how to do this? I am new to LabVIEW, so the more detailed the better.

Why do you say you can't open it? LV 2011 can open LV 8.6 files just fine.
Post a link.

Don't know, I thought so too. I just get the error, LabVIEW load error code 10: VI version (5.0.1) is too old to convert to the current LabVIEW version (11.0). So maybe this is actually older than 8.6?

Yes, It is older. It is version 5.0 like the message says. I'm not sure why you thought it was 8.6.
Searching the forums for "3 way switch" yielded this thread. http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/3-way-vertical-toggle-switch/m-p/219368

To answer the second question:
To make a four position dial, place a regular dial and change the representation to integer (e.g. I32). Adjust the scale range so only four positions show.

Have you had any luck with that 3-pos toggle switch? I'm using LabVIEW 10 (which also can't open a LabVIEW 5 file).
