How much normally you guys charge for one LabVIEW program

Hello,
LabVIEW experts,
Normally how much you charge for one LV program if somebody ask you guys to write the LV program. It may depends on the program right. Letsay one program, with File I/O, Active X, instrument control process. How much should be charge. Actually, I am new in LabVIEW and think about four months only. One of my friend ask me this question. I am a student and may be in the future I may be the programmer and I should know. :P. Now I am alos working part time in on company and writting the LV program for them. Thanks LV experts.

It all depends, on what the nature of the work is. If the customer has a good specification for the work, I generally like to bit on a fixed price. If they don't have a spec, I bid an hourly rate of $80/hr.

The price for programming in Germany differs form about 60 EURO to 110 EURO/h depending on:
education: programming courses until academic grade
size: one man office until 100 person engeeniering office
branch: controller level until economics
users: 1 (labatory) until hundreds
In the aerea of LabVIEW programming a price 70 to 90 EURO/h is usual.

I get offers from russian programmers who want about 30 to 40 EURO/h.

I dont have any prices from India.

Be aware these prices are the one our customer has to pay. There goes off the rooms, energy, non-programming stuff ...

A german computer magazine made a poll and they got a medium salery of 46 600 EURO/Year. The regular time will be 2064h/year giving about 22 EURO/h. From them you have to pa
y the income tax and social security.

For this discussion you can make 1 EURO = 1$.

You have also to take the living costs into account. In Swiss you will earn 30% more absolut as in Germany, but the living cost is nearly 30% above that from Germany. So in effect you get more but you cannot buy more because it costs more.
I know people living in Germany near the Swiss border go to work in Swiss, getting the higher salery from Swiss and paying the lower costs in Germany. You get an working licence from Swiss for 4 Years and it will not nesseccarily renewed. So you have the risk loosing your job after 4 years and getting no one in the near in Germany.

This is only partly true, as there is a new agreement in place since June 2002. All EU citizens will have automatic rights to stay and work in Switzerland. The same will be true int he other direction (Swiss in the EU). However, I know this will be phased in (not all at once) and it could be that some parts of the agreement may only come into effect this year or next year.

Also, Anything including service costs (restaurant, garage costs for car repairs and so on) are much higher in Switzerland, but "goods" such as electronics are often actually cheaper. It all depends on lifestyle whether it`s worth living in Switzerland or not......

Wow, I recognized that Germany give a high pay. I made 20DM/h back in 1995 when I worked as a part time student in the institute and I was quite happy that time, it was really very very hard to get a job and there I wrote my first LabVIEW program. A difference between Germany and North American is: in Germany the university degree and academic grade would define how much you will get paid while in North American people only look at your working experience. So although I had a good academic grade from Germany, but still I had found my first full time job very very hardly in Canada. That's why it's a bad thing to switch the places everywhere.

Rates vary wildly from area to area(city to city/state to state/country to country). Around where I am, the typical rate is about $125/hour but that's also for some pretty talented people. Minimum couple years of LabVIEW programming and several years of engineering experience. Programming is only part of it (a small part at that).
