How to compile a LabVIEW VI into a standalone .exe programme? (LV8.5.1 student edition)

Hi,

I have LabVIEW 8.5.1 Student Edition and am not sure how to compile my VI into a standalone executable (.exe file) that can run without LabVIEW being installed on the computer (no data cards are being read, the VI is providing a simulation of an experiment)?

Do I need to buy additional software to do this, or have I just missed an option in the LabVIEW menu's?

Thanks for the help 🙂

Hi Thomas,

I don't think it is possible to build .exe files with the student edition, as far as I know you need to have the LabVIEW Professional Development Version to do this!

Is it possible to get an add-on for the student version that would give this functionality?

The Application Builder is the component that makes applications, and it's included in the Professional Edition. While you can buy it directly (it's about $1000), I don't know if there are any academic discounts. You should contact your local NI sales rep to find out if there are any.

Building and distributing an executable is probably beyond the intended scope of the student edition. The application builder is not included.

(The application builder alone is several times the cost of the student edition....)

You have a few alternatives:

  • Check with your school, maybe they have a NI campus license, for example.
  • Maybe you can host the program on your computer and let others use it via the web (one at the time).
  • One of us can probably built the application for you if you post the VIs.

Hi,

I have the same problem. I've made a working program, and I wanna show it to my coordinator tomorrow in exe format.

Maybe someone on this forum can make a exe file from the vi files attached?

I would be very grateful.

Onno

Hi Onno,

attached you will find the application made of your VIs.

It is built by LabVIEW 2009 (9.0f3), so you probably have to install the 2009 LabVIEW Runtime engine.

I hope it works,

Thanks a lot gedi!!

The only problem is that my program uses an averaging procedure, a labview sub vi (not standard) that is not included in the runtime engine. So I can't run the program. Maybe there's an easy fix for that?

If there's not, than it's no problem. Cause I found out the computer that has to run the program has Labview 7.1 installed. So another possibility is conversion from 8.2 to 7.1. I've posted this in another topic already.

Regards,

Onno

Your question has absolutely nothing to do with the message thread you posted into.

Please create a new message with your question.

And give more details on what you are trying to do.  What is the "client" you are talking about?
