How to display a portion of a long word in a small string control?

The string indicators and controls are displaying words only as a whole. When having the following string

firstWord andNowThisIsAVeryLongSecondWordButItCantBeSeenAtAllWhenTheCursorIsMostLeft

in a single line string box, where normal display is used and the cursor is at the most left you can see only the first Word. This is quite confusing because of the broad white space it seems that there is nothing beyond the first word.

Are there any settings so that I can see at least a portion of the second word just like in any other GUI program? Or can the problem be assumed as a bug of LabView 6i?

Good morning!

The only solution I've seen to this is to actually resize the box to accommodate any possible string length. (use resize tool in Edit mode)

You can replace the spaces with alternative whitespace. For example, right click, change to "\" codes display and change the "\s" with "\A0" which is ascii 255. Change it back to normal display, and tada!

You can also enter this in normal display mode by holding down alt and typing "255".

You can automatically change spaced to 255 by using an event structure.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, this works just like it should. HEX A0 (DEC 160 or OCT 240) is the non-breaking space (HTML  ) in ISO 8879-1.

Unfortunately there isn't any option in LabVIEW for getting the same effect with normal spaces.

Yep, thanks for pointing that out. I made a product suggestion for it.
