How to use OPC with no DNS??

Hi, im using an address like the following:

opc://192.168.0.215/VGOPCDataLoggerServer.GasWorks/9Reactor9.Argon.Value

The problem is sometimes the main DNS is not available, so after about 10 minutes no data from items is returned. Ive been told you need to add something to the end of the address like an endpoint or computer name. if this is so, how do you do it??

Hello Stu,

I believe we had a short chat about this yesterday and I can see your post on the OPC foundation as well:

http://opcfoundation.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=12964&sid=7b479c94f7b57de3e4c8f66013ba2987

All paths lead to the OPC vendor! 🙂

As other engineers pointed out on the OPC Foundation forum, contact the OPC Vendor and they will help with what they expect, and how you should address your elements. You seem to be using "correct" syntax, and using specific IP addresses, which would be anyone's suggestion, however if this doesn't seem to meet your requirements then the vendor will be the only helpful resource.

Kind Regards,
