How to work with COM port in LabView?

I am the first time working with ports in LabView. I need to connect COM port to LabView. Do I need any toolkit or driver for it?

You can/should use NI VISA. NI VISA supplies you with the Instrument IO Assistant which makes it very easy to configure your task and test it.

Best thing for this is 'Instrument Assistant' found in 'Input' of the functions pallete. It uses VISA and is easy to use as long as you set your COM port up correctly. You can check that your COM port works properly by using for instance Hyperterminal in XP.
