I cna't control the 4156c analyzer

Hi all,

I want to control the 4156C parametric analyzer bu means of GPIB bus, but I don't know it doesn't work.

i did a lot of programs but any of them works after the init vi starts the analyzer. Every program stop by time oput reason. It seems if the 4156 doesn't read the vi parameters.

my Pc runs under winXp, is this one a problem? or maybe because the 4156c 31 dll is read-only? or ... I don't know.

can anyone help me?

D.

Hi,

what are you using to communicate. I watched for a instrument driver and we have one for the 4156C parametric analyzer. Are you using it already? If not, you can download it here:
http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=5035
After installing you should also have some examples for LabVIEW. You can search for them under Help>Find Examples...

I hope this helps.

Thanks for yor rapid answer.

However, i did it what you say and doesn't work and there aren't any aexamples in the help. I don't know if I downloaded the correct driver. Have you got any examples that control the 4156C analyzer.

Today, I try with a simple program that init the instrument and then I send a basic command to the intrusment but it doesn't work, it gives a time-out error. I don't know what's happen...

Do you have VISA installed? Without VISA it wont work. Maybe that is missing.
I installed the driver as well and also couldnt find an example. But you can find the functions, no? I added a screenshoot where you can find them on the pallete. (You have to extract your files into the instrument folder of you labview installation "instr.lib").

Hi again,

Now I download an old driver version to control the 515X analyzer and it works (http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=E3B19B3E93D2659CE034080020E748...), but i want to know why lats version doesn't work.

I have installed visa and all the drivers are placed in the instr.lib dir.

Good, that it is working. I cant tell you why. It seems that there is an error in the driver, because as the old version works, with LabVIEW seems to be everything right. The best would be to contact Agilent for more information, as they developed the driver.

This is confusing. On the link you just provided, there are two links to two drivers. One is for LabVIEw 8 and one is for LabVIEW 7. Which one did you download and get to work? Was it one of these or this that did not work? If it's the wrapper around the dll driver, then that driver is not supported by NI and is based on a quite old dll as the download page mentions.
