A is true : It requires less memory, because there are no controllers, indicators, etc.

Huh?

I mean the front panel doesnt have to display any of that stuff, unless you make the sub-VI's front panel visible, which you may or may not do.

Also, the test does not have questions on how to use labviuew help, from the examples i have seen.

That's got to be best excuse I've heard for NOT using the Help file.

And I also said to use the LabVIEW help to find the answers to these basic questions. Maybe it's premature to take the CLAD exam if someone does not know how to use the Help.

Amen.

How to use the help (which can't not found in the help):

Press CTRL+?.
In the index tab, type one or more key words. In this particular case,
"expandable nodes".
Click on the results, one by one.
In this case the first result "expandable nodes" looks promissing.
Click on it.
Expandable nodes is explained.

If the result doesn't show a direct hit:
In the search tab, type one or more key words. In this particular case,
"modular nodes".
Since we are looking for "modular nodes", not "modular" and "node",
optionally add NEAR. "modular NEAR nodes".
Click on the one result.
In this case, "modular nodes" is not mentioned are a hole, so I think it is
safe to say that it is not a used term.

When dealing with exams, it is best to take educated guesses. I still think
it is a good argument, that if "expandable nodes" excist, then "expanded
nodes" also does excist, and visa versa. So those two options are not
correct...

Also, when taking NI exams, if you have to choose, choose the awnser that is
most positive. In the second example about sub vi's, you (should) know NI
promotes the use of sub VI's. And with good reason. So the awnser is most
likelly a positive one towards the usage of sub VI's. So not "harder to
debug", which is bad, why should we use them if that is true? But "using
less memory", well that sounds great, lets use them!

Hope it helps you with using the help, and passing the exam.

Regards,

Wiebe.

How about: using sub VI uses less memory, because the same code is reused
instead of copied?

In fact, if you only use one instance sub vi, you are using slightly more
memory then "inlining" the code". Not a good reason not to use sub vi's
though.

Wiebe.

Displaying SubVIs and Express VIs as Icons or Expandable Nodes

You can display VIs and Express VIs as icons or as expandable nodes. Expandable nodes appear as icons surrounded by a colored field. SubVIs appear with a yellow field, and Express VIs appear with a blue field. Use icons if you want to conserve space on the block diagram. Use expandable nodes to make wiring easier and to aid in documenting block diagrams. By default, subVIs appear as icons on the block diagram, and Express VIs appear as expandable nodes.
