I want

to convert a movie from VHS video cassette format to avi or mpeg format. I have a soundcard and an NI image board IMAQ PCI 1411 and have labview 6.1. please help if some one has an example for this. my movies are about 3 hrs long with both audio and video.i'll be very grateful for your time and help.

Well, maybe you can take a look at IVision
http://www.geocities.com/irene_he/IVision.html
There are functions for writing AVI file in this toolkit. Take a look
at the IVision_camerademo1.vi. It records live video into AVI file
without sound. And you may need to convert IMAQ image into IVision
since you use the IMAQ PCI1411
card. There are vis in the IVision
toolkit do the converting between IMAQ and IVision. But this toolkit
does not integrate audio with the video and that's something I may
think about doing later.
Sorry don't know other tools in LV can do this.

Cave ! 3 hour movies in one (!) file could be a problem exceeding the maximum file size of your OS !

3 hours of analog video are definitely an issue.
Just a question: have you a specific reason for doing it in LabVIEW?
If you only need to acquire the video and sound signals, I believe the best solution is a dedicated board for video capture. You can find different models on the market at reasonable price, normally they're provided with software for video and sound compression.
