INCOMPATIBILITY?

Hi,

I was using LabVIEW 7.0 Express with measurement and Automation 3.0 and a PCI-6025E data acquisition device. The DAQmx 7 data acquisition function which appeared in LabVIEW didn't work with my device, LV always generated error messages. After many hours testing what could be the problem, I decided to install NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 but....my surprise was that NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 didn't support LV 7.0 Express... and then , after install it, it removed the data acquisition functions from LV!!!! So I decided to uninstall NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 and install NI-DAQmx 7 to have access to the data acquisition functions from LV environment. And.... what was my surprise? It was that now data acquisition functions were working well... And then I am wondering why? Because first, before installing and uninstalling NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 it didn't work and now yes, why?

Thanks,

ToNi.

Installing 8.3 removed the support for LV 7.0 because you can only have one version of DAQmx installed and that does version does not support LV 7.0.

As for why it now works - it probably has nothing to do with 8.3. If you just did a repair on the 7 installation it probably would have fixed it as well.

Hi,

But after uninstalling NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 I install again NI-DAQmx 7 and then it seems to work well. Why it doesn't work when I install LV 7.0 Express and NI-DAQmx 7 for first time?Do I need to install NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 and uninstall it and then install again NI-DAQmx 7 in order to work?

I mean to say in other words, if I only install LV 7 Express and NI-DAQmx 7 for first time, why it doesn't work (without installing NI-DAQmx 8.3.1)?

Another thing,

Is it possible to install NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 without removing the data acquisition functions (installed by NI-DAQmx 7) of LV 7.0 Express?

Thanks,

ToNi.

As I said, I'm guessing that DAQmx 8.3 does not support LV 7.0, which is why it would have removed the VIs. You can check the documentation for 8.3 to find out for sure.

As for why it worked, I have two guesses -
  • You didn't complete the installation properly the first time (e.g. rebooting).
  • The installation was corrupt for some reason and reinstalling solved it.
In both cases, the fact that you installed 8.3 is not related to the fact it started working.

Hi,

Then, what do you recommend to me? If I use LV 7.0 Express, is it better for me to continue using NI-DAQmx 7? I would like to install the last version of NI-DAQmx 8.5 and continue keeping the data acquisition functions in LV 7 Express because maybe the new version of NI-DAQmx has better improvements, or not?

As already mentioned, DAQmx 8.3 does not support LabVIEW 7.0. The latest version of DAQmx with 7.0 support is 8.1 so either leave your existing version, upgrade to 8.1, or upgrade your version of LabVIEW.

Hello,

I don't understand what is happening with my PCI-6025E data acquisition device..... Sometimes works sometimes doesn't work. As I mentioned you I uninstall NI-DAQmx 8.3.1 and Measurement & Automation 4.1 and now I have NI-DAQmx 7, Measurement & Automation 3 and LabVIEW 7.0 Express but my device doesn't work, for example, I go to Measurement & Automation Explorer 3 and I go to the Devices and Interfaces section and then to NI-DAQmx Devices where appears my device PCI-6025E:"Dev1" and then I select it and press the button Self-Test.... and.... I receives the error message that I attach here. Why? What's happening?

My Devices appears under Traditional NI-DAQ Devices and NI-DAQmx Devices but it fails when I want to test my device. I receives the message error I mentioned you. Another thing, when I select an option from the menu of Measurement & Automation Explorer (for example, File, Edit, View....) it crashes and then Measurement & Automation Explorer closes immediatelly.

And finally, I don't know if it is correct to change the name of the device that appears under Traditional NI-DAQ Devices and NI-DAQmx Devices. Is it necessary and obligatory that the device names of the same device that appears in Traditional NI-DAQ Devices and NI-DAQmx Devices must be the same?

Thanks in advance,

ToNi.

I would check your local NI seller. The card is broken and should be checked.
